Trade show attendees in Latin America will sample beverages, chocolates, dairy products and biscuits that meet consumer demand for the best of both worlds – taste and health

(BRAZIL) – 23 July 2016 – Tate & Lyle, a global provider of ingredients and solutions to the food and beverage industries, will feature a ‘better for you’ ingredient portfolio at Food Ingredients South America (FiSA) at booth #135. The largest industry gathering in Latin America, the event will be held August the 23rd-25th at the Transamerica Expo Center in São Paulo, Brazil.

The Tate & Lyle applications team has developed a trade show menu using a range of specialty ingredients to maintain great taste, while boosting nutritional benefits, enriching fibre content, and reducing sugar and calories. The prototypes include innovative versions of popular favourites, reduced calorie chocolate milk and cookies, as well as confections and snacks.

‘We’re looking forward to surprising and delighting attendees with prototypes containing ingredients that offer health benefits without sacrificing the great taste and texture their consumers expect’, says Enrique Reyes, Vice President for South America.  ‘We believe our solutions give the industry an opportunity to enrich their consumers’ lives through extraordinary food every day.’

According to proprietary research commissioned by Tate & Lyle (Qualtrics, LLC, July 2015), 67% of consumers in Brazil are avoiding sugar and 60% are seeking to add fibre to their diets. However, taste is still a crucial factor when consumers make a purchase. Thus, manufacturers need a number of ‘better-for-you’ ingredients that meet nutrition, health and wellness demands and still maintain great taste.

To meet this need, Tate & Lyle will feature a sugar-reduced biscuit made with PROMITOR® Soluble Fibre.  PROMITOR® helps maintain texture, after reducing sugar, and offers several health benefits including promoting growth of ‘good bacteria’ in the digestive system. In addition, unlike some other fibres, PROMITOR® has exceptional digestive tolerance.

Tate & Lyle is also featuring two beverages made with sugar and zero-calorie TASTEVA® Stevia Sweetener: a grape nectar with a 30% sugar reduction and a chocolate drink with 44% less sugar. In both beverages, sucrose and TASTEVA® create a unique combination which enhances the sweetness and eliminates the bitter aftertaste often associated with other stevia ingredients.  PROMITOR® Soluble Fibre is also used in the grape nectar to maintain mouth-feel of a full sugar beverage while providing a source of fibre claim.
